What is it?

The Middle Level Education Institute (MLEI) is a 5-day intensive professional development opportunity for teams and individuals interested in middle level education, supported by statewide and nationally recognized experts in middle level education and technology integration. Activities include keynotes, sessions/workshops, and team/individual projects supported by a variety of experienced consultants. Sessions focus on effective middle level practices and integration of technology to improve teaching and learning.

When is it?

Activities begin Sunday afternoon, June 22, and continue through Thursday afternoon, June 26. The  official daily schedule begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends with optional evening sessions.

How does technology fit in?

The emphasis of this institute is promoting learning for young adolescents. As in middle schools, we integrate technology to improve engagement and learning. All participants should bring a laptop to be able to fully participate in sessions and access all MLEI resources and information. Residence halls and meeting rooms will all be equipped with wired or wireless Internet access.

Housing and Food

All participants will be provided with lunch Monday—Thursday and dinner on Sunday. Participants may choose to stay on campus, which will include a shared apartment in Patch Hall and (in addition to meals provided to all participants) and breakfast Monday—Thursday. Participants may choose to commute or arrange for housing in a local hotel.

What kind of credit is available?

Participants may choose to earn 3 graduate credits or  4.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Either is integrated into the cost of the MLEI.

Costs

$1100 for commuters
$1300 to stay on campus
